A celebrated agricultural scientist known for guiding India’s agriculture through its population boom and into the country’s “Green Revolution” died on September 29, 2023. He was 98.
Swaminathan’s efforts brought industrial scale farming to India, reducing the country’s reliance on food imports and dramatically reducing widespread hunger and helping low-income farmers.
